I have been a dedicated and loyal vegetarian for 15 years. But during a trip to Ecuador earlier this year my life had been forever altered. I discovered my love for fresh fish. I am a very picky pescatarian but I know good fresh fish and there is a truck on Roosevelt Ave in Queens that serves up a dish called Bollo De Pescado. This dish is made up of grated plantain stuffed with tuna, wrapped in banana leaf, steamed and served with red onion relish. Top it off with a squeeze of fresh lime juice and a couple dashes of hot sauce.
These guys know Ecuadorian food. They are from the coast, the city of Quayaquil, where fish and ceviches are taken very seriously. And they bring their knowledge of savory coastal Ecuadorian food to their little truck on Roosevelt and Warren st. I highly recommend the next time you are feeling adventurous and want to expand your normal eating out excursions; take a trip to Roosevelt Ave and try some of the fantastic Latino food.
